His Grace Alexios Mar Eusebius, formerly Rev. Fr. Alex Daniel, is a distinguished spiritual leader and member of St. George Orthodox Church, Puthoor, of the Kollam Diocese. Born on 5th September 1964 into the Vattakkattu family, he is the son of late Sri Y. Daniel and Smt. Chinnamma Daniel.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Kerala University and an LL.B from Bangalore University. Pursuing his calling, he completed his theological studies at the Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam, followed by a Bachelor of Divinity from Serampore University and a Master’s Degree in Theology from St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore. He also earned a Diploma in Biblical Geography from Jerusalem and conducted doctoral research in Old Testament studies in Germany.
Ordained as a deacon in 1993 and as a priest in 1995, His Grace has served parishes in India and abroad. He has contributed significantly to theological education as a faculty member at St. Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary, Nagpur, and held various administrative and leadership roles within the Church.
Elected as Metropolitan in 2008 and ordained in 2009, he became the first Metropolitan of the South-West America Diocese, where he led remarkable developments including establishing new churches and building a diocesan center in Houston. He later served as Assistant Metropolitan of the Mavelikara Diocese and, since November 2022, as the Metropolitan of the Calcutta Diocese.
In addition to his ecclesiastical responsibilities, His Grace serves in several key leadership roles and continues to contribute to spiritual growth, education, and social service initiatives across regions.
